John Candy one of the greatest comedians ever to live.
Growing up in Lubbock, Texas gave me a lot of time to draw. With all my time that I had to draw I naturally have a lot of sketch books to work off of. I use many of my old drawings in my prints. My prints are large enough to where I am able to fit a lot of information into them , it gives the viewer a good deal to look at. This is reinforced by not having any defined horizon line or anything that can be truly called a landscape. Scale and gravity are something that does not apply in any of my prints. There are tall people, short people, fat and skinny people existing all on the same plain. The viewer can look at my prints and discover something new every time they are seen. Little touches such as half tone, and ads. Naturally I draw what is around me, comics and bad movies both of which are mainly from the latter half of the 20th century. By drawing all of these I’ve created a sense of nostalgia that was before my time. With this idea of “unlived nostalgia” I try to capture the cheesiness of these worlds of the past, the way I feel that they were. My subject matters, colors, and humor have all gone into creating a world that is my own unique vision of the past. The main purpose behind my prints is to entertain, much like a b-movie does—it’s goofy but fun.
